Top 5 Things to Know when Planning your Dream Wedding
Top 5 Things to Know when Planning your Dream Wedding
We think Josh (one of the owners at The Postmark and one of our highly recommended DJ vendors) really says it best. Our heart - and yours, we’re sure - is to create a seamless and beautiful wedding that you’ll remember for a lifetime. But how do you get from point A to point B? Let us give you a jumpstart with these top 5 tips for planning your dream wedding!
1. Create that Budget
Determine your budget for your entire wedding and what is most important to you for your big day. Each couple is different in what is important to them, whether it’s having the photographer present for all the details while getting ready or having your guests experience a fun-filled night of dancing into the night. Of course, the venue is a big part of that budget- so checking into all the “additives” that a venue may provide within your rental package is important. Having an on-site venue coordinator, bridal suite, and groom’s lounge are all huge bonuses to look for. With these elements, you can decorate your ceremony space, get you and your bridal party ready, and celebrate all in one amazing space while avoiding extra travel time and other organizational hassles.
2. Find the Perfect Venue BEFORE Locking a Date
Have you dreamed of your wedding in a big city, country setting, or maybe in the mountains? Most of us dream of the big day for years and know exactly our vision for the day. We encourage all couples to find the perfect venue before settling on a date. Be flexible so that you can choose based on the time of year you’d like to get married from the dates available when you find the perfect space. Flexibility will then also help you with your budget. Consider a Friday or a Sunday; these are going to allow you to have your big day in the space you love while saving you money that you can spend in other places that help create your vision. Whether it be adding a photo booth, some indoor fireworks for your first dance as husband and wife, or an out-of-the-box dessert option for your guests (like an ice cream truck), you will be grateful for every dollar you save on the venue.
3. Create the Perfect Dream Team of Vendors
Having the top wedding professionals surround you will make or break your day. First, check with the wedding venue about a venue manager or coordinator inside the space. They will be working with you throughout the entire process. From your very first tour to when you walk out the front doors as the newly pronounced Mr. & Mrs., they are responsible for making sure all the details come together with perfection. Having someone who knows the venue well and will be there for the whole process is a big stress reliever. Check with the venue manager for a preferred list of vendors as well. These are wedding professionals who work with the venue regularly and have maintained a good relationship with them. Preferred vendors lists generally include photographers, DJs, florists, officiants, cake vendors, and caterers in the space a lot- and utilizing these vendors will serve as a HUGE benefit to you! It allows the venue to take on the coordination of these vendors so that there’s less for you to do. Two, it also guarantees that the relationships between each of these wedding professionals have already been built. Your vendor team will be familiar with space itself and how the day will flow best.
4. Make Sure To Pause And Take In The Details of Your Day
This is perhaps the most important step of all. You have been planning for (usually) over a year, and the day will fly by. Make sure you pause to take in all the work you have done to get to this day and where you're journey as a couple has brought you. You are about to say I do to your best friend! For your guests to feel well cared for and for you to step back and enjoy all the special moments that the day is sure to bring, the formation of a great timeline shared with your vendors ahead of time is crucial. Whether you are planning a first look or keeping the tradition of seeing your best friend for the first time at the altar, the venue coordinator will work within your timeline since they know the ins and out’s of the space. You can spend a lot of time planning a timeline, but if the DJ isn’t informed of it, you could be left cutting cake at the end of the night. In addition, working through these details with the photographer is especially important because you will want to make sure that the lighting for specific shots will be perfect for the time of year and location in which you will be getting married!
